I think this a dahlia bud? I know it's not a peony. My mom planted it years ago.
I think marigolds are highly underrated.
I got this Columbine last year at a perennial close out sale in July. I bought a bunch of perennials and the Columbine is the only thing that survived. It's pretty though, and I do have bunches of it scattered around. I'm looking forward to it spreading.
When I saw this little guy at the thrift shop, I had to snap him up because this is exactly what my dog Gabe would look like if he were fertilized. I should know, we've been on a reducing plan for over 2 years now. We'll just call it a "lifestyle choice."

It seems we are at about the same level of progress in our gardens..things are just getting good around here...did you get the huge batch of storms roll through that we got??? they looked like they were headed your way...I hope they petered out before they got to you...they were noisy! we need the rain...but does it have to come so hard and loud??? lol
Good post. Love the dog!! That does look like a Dahlia bud to me.
Hello from Nova Scotia!
Lovely flowers. I agree with you about marigolds - I really love them. And your doggie planter is very cute; I have a piggy planter. Come check me out!
Beautiful plants, and yes, the marigolds are beautiful too.
I think that is indeed a peony bud! LOL(-: I can't wait to see it open to know for sure(-:
Your doggie is sooooooooooooo cute!!! I love it!!!!! Jack looks pretty plump at times!!!LOL
Your flowers all look fabulous! Happy FF to you!!!!!
I think you're right Marigolds are way underrated. Very pretty and love your thrifty finds. Hey I've got some of those teapots hmmmm . . .
Thanks so much for stopping by my place. Now I have someone new to visit but I've been a little slow lately getting around because of gardening. Haven't figured out a good system for doing it all yet!
Don't you just love Anthropologie? I wish I could afford to shop there more often. Your blooms are looking lovely, and I think that Marigolds are underrated, too. ~ Robyn
Nice flowers. Thanks for showing us. I love the copper teapot. Don't you love bargains that you actually use.
I've enjoyed my visit to your garden very pretty! Warm wishes, Esther
Tootsie, yes, last Sunday it just rained cats and dogs all day. I got three rain barrels full from the same spout - maybe could have gotten more if I had been brave enough to run out during the heavier rain, lol No thunder though, thankfully, as my beagle Archie is petrified of thunder. And, yes, things are just getting good around here too - my wave pentunias seem to be kicking in nicely.
Darla and CiNdEe, I think it might actually be a peony now! I am surprised because my mom always said "no" to peonies because of the ants, but I certainly didn't plant it! Hopefully will have an open bloom to post on the next FF.
Sandy, siteseer, and Esther, thanks for droppng by!
RainGardener, yep, it's the same for me. Hard to find enough hours in the day. The other night I was weeding until 10pm. Could have gone another 10 or 15 minutes with the light, but I figure 10pm is late enough for weeds!
imjacobsmom - this was only my second time at Anthropologie. I was once in Las Vegas. The store in Edmonton is new - definitely wasn't there last fall, the last time I went. I do love it though and I made the mistake of telling my sister she had to go (she had never heard of it). Duvet cover, shower curtain, throw rug, tea towels, candles, and an Anthropologie card later, she finally left the store, hahaha
Teresa - yes, I love bargains, period! :-)
Jacki, glad to meet up with you! I hope you change your mind and grow lots of peonies..they are the best..ants and all! I love the orange marigolds and usually grow them as the deer don't touch them. Cute little doggy...is it a planter?
Lynn
What a cute doggie...your blooms are beautiful...
Your flowers are lovely!! I adore your begonias in the copper tea pot. I'll be on the look out at yard sales and flea markets for other such unique potting containers! I'm adding you to my blogroll - will you add me to yours?
Lynn, actually, I just planted a peony the other day :-D I had gone garden shopping with a friend in mid-May and when she pointed out the peonies, I said "oh no, you'll get ants." But then another friend sent me a "thank you" bouquet a few weeks ago that included peony blooms and I knew I had to plant some.
The dog is actually a piggy bank, but he makes a nice little piece of yard art.
Lauren, I am actually already following your blog. I must need to expand my blog list so that it shows more, or shows the most recently updated or something. Any blog with "black thumbs" in the title is a must follow :-D Both because I've killed my share of plants and because I'll learn what you learn.
Thoughtfully blended hearts, thanks for dropping by!
The marigolds are lovely~ I planted some marigold seeds this year....haven't seen anything pop up yet. Love the dog & tea cup planter. :)
Those are some pretty marigolds, and what a cute dog.
I loved seeing how you set up your herb bed. It looks really nice. I love the bird fountain too!
I have to agree that Value Village has some crazy pricing!!! Our Sally Ann...usually doesn't have much to look at either...just a lot of junk! I think I just got lucky!
Oh the garden looks so pretty. The copper kettle and all your bargain finds are great! Yup looks like a peony to me. The peopnies are out in full bloom here - I love them, hey those ants need somewhere pretty to live ;)
Great post - wonderful photos.
*of to take pics of peonies and marigolds - if it ever stops raining!*
"Gabe if fertilized", school of "yard" knocks....I love your sense of humor! Carries us through our gardening (and life) bumbles, doesn't it! Glad I stumbled into your garden.
